About the Awa Odori

The Awa Odori Dance has over 400 years of history and is one of Tokushima’s world-class traditional performing arts.

Although the Awa Odori is held all over Japan nowadays, such as in Koenji, Tokyo and Minamikoshigaya, Saitama, the main festival, held in Tokushima City from August 12-15th each year, attracts more than 1 million tourists from all around Japan and overseas, making it one of Japan’s most prominent events.

There is also the Awa Odori Kaikan Hall in the city, where you can enjoy and experience the Awa Odori all year-round, and get a sense of the charm of Tokushima City’s Awa Odori.
