Bizan Park

最終更新日:2020年12月15日

Bizan Park

Size:

240,403m(2)

Development history:

In 1958, a city planning project to build a park near the summit of Mt. Bizan was proposed and later approved. The development of the 2,850 meter long Bizan Parkway began in 1959, and the park was officially opened soon after. Since 1983, there has been a focus to continue to redevelop the park in order to preserve the nature and scenery of the area, and so that the park area can be used by more people for tourism and recreational purposes.

Characteristics:

Mt. Bizan borders the central Tokushima City area with its gently curved shape (laterally) and altitude of 290m. In addition to a panoramic view of the city, you can see the Sanuki Mountains, Seto Inland Sea, and the Kishu Mountains from the summit of the mountain. Mt. Bizan is considered a representative tourist spot of Tokushima City and was written about in the ancient Manyoshu (an 8th century anthology of Japanese poetry). The mountain park is also a place where citizens of Tokushima City can come in close contact with nature, and thus, in addition to Mt. Shiroyama in the Tokushima Central Park, Bizan Park has become a “green” symbol of the city.

In the “Symbol Zone” on the summit of the mountain is the panorama viewing area, the parking lot, “flower cascade”, flower and bird observation area, birdwatching walking path, and other interesting places to see and enjoy. You can also find a gazebo in the park, which was gifted by Tokushima City’s American sister city, Saginaw City, in 1989 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Tokushima City.

Flower and bird observation area:

Within this 12,000 m(2) large area is a grassy area and birdwatching walking path. This area also is home to about 3,900 trees of various heights, of which can be enjoyed throughout the four seasons. From the observation platform you can enjoy the view of the south-west part of the city down below while taking a rest.

View from the summit:

You can see the Sanuki Mountains, Seto Inland Sea, and the Kishu Mountains from the summit of the mountain. We also encourage you to enjoy the beautiful scenery from the mountaintop at nighttime.

Flower cascade:

Layers of flowers form a shape of a fan and change with the four seasons. This space serves as a gentle welcome to visitors to the park and as a place to relax while enjoying the soothing view.

Gazebo:

This Western-style gazebo was gifted by Tokushima City’s American sister city, Saginaw City, in 1989 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Tokushima City, and is considered one of the most prominent parts within Bizan Park.
