LEIRIA is a city closely connected with the great writer, Wenceslao de Moraes, who loved Tokushima. It is about 150 km northwest of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal and has a population of about 120,000. The sister city relationship with Tokushima was started in 1969. Its main industries are glass and ceramics.

Friendship between the two cities began in 1991. It has a population of about 700,000. Jinjiang Hill Park, Yalu River Park and Mt. Fenghuang (Phoenix) In the city center, are popular tourist spots. The city is known for the weaving industries and light industries. Silk from Dandong CIty has an excellent reputation.

Sister city relationship started in April 1970. Sendai prospers as a castle town of the Date 620,000 koku. Now the city with about 1,000,000 people is the center of administration, economy, art, sciences, and culture in the Tohoku district. Active Cultural exchanges between the two cities includes not only Sendai Tanabatamatsuri and Tokushima Awa Odori but fine arts as well.

Industrial and Cultural sister city relationship started in August 1982. The city is located in the center of the Tokachi Plain and is a distributing center of agricultural and stock farm products. It has a population of about 170,000. Cultural exchanges at annual events such as the Ice festival and Awa Odori bring the citizens of Obihiro and Tokushima together.
